Back in January, I went to Texas’ Rally For Life. At the rally we heard Clair Culwell, an abortion survivor, speak. My friend Katie told me about Melissa Ohden who is also an abortion survivor and speaks against abortion. Melissa had written a book called You Carried Me and I decided to read it to learn more about her story.

Oh. My. Goodness! I could not put this book down! I loved this book so much!

You Carried Me is an amazing book by Melissa Ogden, an abortion survivor. If you have never heard the testimony of an abortion survivor, read this book.

What is You Carried Me about?

You Carried Me is Melissa Ohden’s life story. In this book, she chronicles how she was adopted as an infant and grew up knowing she was loved and chosen by her parents.

When she was 14, she found out she was an abortion survivor who had been left to die. A nurse heard her crying, rescued her and brought her to the NICU. Shortly thereafter her parents adopted her.

After finding out she was an abortion survivor, the young teenager struggled with her identity and feeling unwanted. When she went to college, her new peers found her story troubling and she felt like sharing her story was taboo. In one college paper, she wrote about how she survived an abortion. Her professor wrote in the margins that it is horrible that her parents lied to her as it was impossible she could actually be an abortion survivor.

The rest of the book details Melissa’s quest to find out information about her birth parents. I don’t want to spoil the book, so I won’t say much more beyond that.

What did I like about You Carried Me?

It was so engaging and easy to read! I couldn’t put down the book and read it in less than 24 hours. I even accidentally missed Sunday School that Sunday because I decided to read a chapter before church. The book sucked me into its pages; I looked up thirty minutes later and realized I should be at church!

I loved learning about Melissa’s life. Before this, I had never read a book about an abortion survivor and it was amazing hearing her perspectives on things. Seeing her journey go from one of joy to darkness and then back to joy was encouraging and hopeful.

What didn’t I like about the book?

That it was impossible to put down!

Haha, I think that’s the only bad thing about You Carried Me. ˆ

Who should read You Carried Me?

Everyone should read this book!

Regardless of if you are pro-life or pro-choice, you should pick up a copy of this book and read about Melissa Ohden‘s life. If you’re pro-life, it will encourage you to stand up more for the lives of the unborn. If you’re pro-choice, then it will provide you with a story that could stretch your views and help you understand why the other side is so passionate about the unborn.

As far as goriness goes, this book isn’t too bad. I’ve read other books that are more graphic than You Carried Me, although this book will definitely make you uncomfortable at times from the truths it presents- regardless of where you stand on the topic of abortion.

Where can I buy You Carried Me?

You can buy You Carried Me from Amazon or from Plough.

Concluding Thoughts:

Like I’ve said, everyone should read this book. I’ve read lots of other pro-life books but none like You Carried Me. Most pro-life autobiographies I’ve read are by people who were pro-choice at one point/ worked in the abortion industry and then converted. The fact that an abortion survivor wrote this book really sets it apart.

Don’t miss out on this book and order your copy today! :)
