Feeling nervous about preventing pregnancy naturally?

I totally get that!

I remember waiting anxiously that first month Caleb and I were married. Was I pregnant? Does Fertility Awareness REALLY work?

When my period started, I breathed a sigh of relief and grinned. Fertility awareness is so cool!

So if you’re feeling nervous at the thought of trying to avoid pregnancy without hormonal birth control, I’ve got 3 reasons why you should learn FEMM.

If you're feeling nervous at the thought of trying to avoid pregnancy without hormonal birth control, here are three reasons why you should learn FEMM.

Reason #1: Discover how to identify & chart cervical mucus

Have you ever seen a egg-white-ish discharge flowing out of you mid-cycle and felt worried you might have an infection?

I thought that before I learned about cervical mucus!

Your body produces cervical mucus based upon your hormone levels. So cool!

We go wayyyyy in depth about this in FEMM, so here’s a quick overview:

  • When you’re infertile, you produce a dense, mucus barrier in your cervix that keeps sperm & bacteria out of your body.
  • When you’re fertile, you produce fluid cervical mucus that helps transport the sperm to the egg.

Without this fertile cervical mucus, you cannot get pregnant!

FEMM teaches you all about how to identify your different types of cervical mucus. You’ll learn how to use certain colors and symbols to record the mucus observations on a chart.

Reason #2: Learn how to use your chart to identify when you & your spouse can go unprotected

FEMM has family planning guidelines for when it’s recommended for you and your spouse to go unprotected or abstain if you’re trying to avoid pregnancy.

These guidelines have variations dependent on how long you’ve been charting. The guidelines also vary depending on which phase of your cycle you’re in.

During the first cycle of FEMM, it’s recommended that you abstain entirely while you learn how to recognize cervical mucus.

In the second cycle, there are limits on which days are considered “safe,” and then in the third cycle you have even more “safe” days.

Because these guidelines start strict and become more and more available, you’re able to become confident in your cervical mucus observations.

*Note: These guidelines are just guidelines. They are not laws where you will be fined or jailed if you break them. FEMM is all about informed consent and you knowing which days are fertile or infertile in your cycle and using that information as you please.

Reason #3: Receive support from your instructor to ensure that you’re charting correctly

Your FEMM instructor should go over your charts with you and help you know what you’re doing well and where you can improve.

I go over my 1:1 client’s charts five times with them so they can feel very confident in their charting abilities. Some of my clients say that our chart evaluations are the most helpful part of 1:1 FEMM coaching!

It’s the place where you can ask all your specific questions and I will answer them for you. If I don’t know the answer, I will seek out the answer and get back to you.

Having instructor support to make sure you’re identifying your cervical mucus correctly and recognizing your ovulatory phase correctly is essential for peace of mind if you’re trying to avoid pregnancy.
