As a FEMM instructor, I often see my beginning clients struggle to understand their LH test results. When I learned about Proov Predict test strips, I decided to try them out to see how they compare to the test I typically order from Amazon.

Spoiler alert: I think Proov tests are pretty awesome, but I don’t think they’re for everyone.

How do Proov tests work?

First, you’ll order Proov Predict tests from the Proov website. You’ll also need to download the free app. No additional devices are required!

Then, you’ll input your last period date and the app will notify you when it’s time to start using the Proov Predict LH tests.

The app will walk you through how to take an LH test with step-by-step visual instructions, which is a great tool for beginners! If you’ve been taking LH tests for a while like me, you can quickly skip these tutorials.

You’ll take your test, wait ten minutes, and then upload a picture of the test into Proov. The Proov app will then analyze your results and show you visually what your LH surge is doing.

Taking LH tests with Proov Predict is simple and easy! I love how the app tells you your results so clearly.

The app will also plot your results on a graph, providing yet another visual way to track your hormones. I love how I can see my LH levels rise and fall!

Can you use Proov Predict if you’re trying to avoid pregnancy?

My opinion is no. At least, not on its own.

The reason for that is you are fertile before your positive LH tests due to fertile cervical mucus existing before the LH surge.

If you want to learn a method such as FEMM which combines LH testing and cervical mucus tracking, then using Proov Predict for your LH tests could be great!

However, due to the cost of Proov Predict and the amount of tests that come in one box, from a financial stand point I don’t recommend using Proov’s LH tests when you can get them in bulk from other brands for much cheaper.

EXCEPTION—

If you’re starting to take LH tests and are wanting to grow in confidence in your ability to read them, you could use Proov for one cycle. Read the test on your own, determine if you think it’s positive or negative, and then scan it into the app for confirmation.

Then, switch to a cheaper brand.

Can you use Proov Predict if you’re trying to conceive?

Yes!

Proov Predict will help you identify your two most fertile days in your cycle which is crucial information when you’re TTC.

Like I mentioned above, you’re fertile before your positive LH test results. If you’re TTC I recommend learning a cervical mucus based fertility awareness method in combination to taking Proov Predict tests.

Remember, LH tests are the same as ovulation predictor kits. OPKs test for the surge of your luteinizing hormone.

Proov tests can help you increase your odds of pregnancy!

Regardless of if you’re TTA or TTC, if you want an added boost in confidence in reading your LH test results, I recommend trying out Proov Predict for at least one cycle.
