I absolutely adore my boyfriend’s grandmother.
Last fall she turned 80 and his family threw a big birthday party for her. When I got there, Caleb was outside tending to the chickens and so I went over and said hi to Grammie. She hugged me tight around my neck and then grabbed my hand. “Now, Kara Beth, you come here. I got some people I need to introduce you to.”
I smiled to myself. Very few people call me “Kara Beth” in real life. My deceased grandmother did as well as the children’s minister at my church growing up who was also like a grandmother to me. It made my heart happy to hear someone else call me by both my names.
Grammie proceeded to pull me through the crowded house and introduced me to the members of her family who I hadn’t met yet. I met Caleb’s cousins and their children. I met Grammie’s sister-in-law. That night I met more people in their family than I can even remember.
I loved feeling included by her and welcomed into her family.
A few days ago, Caleb and I had dinner at Grammie and Grampy’s house. Afterward, we discovered old German Bibles that had belonged to Grammie’s mother. As we flipped through the ancient pages, Grammie told me more about her family’s history. Once again, I felt honored to learn more about this amazing woman and her family tree.
A Young Living team is like a giant family.
That’s one reason why I’m so glad Young Living is a Network Marketing Company. It’s not like just ordering products like you do off Amazon or buying something up in a store. Buying essential oils through Young Living isn’t a solitary event. It’s like joining a family.
My enroller (the person who I signed up under) is like my oil mom.
I count on Phylicia to introduce me to the rest of the family. She helps me join the Facebook groups and teaches me about essential oils.
Then there’s the person above her- my oil grandmother.
Kristen’s the person who helped my oil mom (Phylicia) sign up. I just got added to her Facebook group and I’m excited to learn about essential oils and the other Young Living products from her and my oil aunts and uncles.
Then there’s the person above that- my oil great-grandma.
Jami actually texted me a few days after I joined her family, wanting to make sure everything was okay with my order. I’m apart of her Facebook group now too, and she even has some classes that she sends to you via texts that I’ve participated in. (So if you don’t have Facebook, you don’t have to worry about missing out on the education!)
I also have my oil siblings.
These are the other people who also signed up under Phylicia. Beyond that are my oil aunts and uncles, and so on. I interact with these people on the Facebook groups. The Facebook groups are like family reunions. But without the drama.

And just like my oil mom has done for me, I’ll help you get added to the Facebook groups so you can meet the rest of the family. I’ll help you get signed up for oil grandma’s text classes if you prefer that. I’ll share what I’m learning about oils with you and help you grow with them.
Eventually, you can have your own oil children that you introduce to Young Living and thus continue our wonderful family tree!
This family aspect is one reason why I’m so grateful that I’m a part of Young Living.
If you buy oils from Walmart, you don’t get adopted into a family. And that’s just so sad! (That, and the oils from Walmart have stuff added to them, so they’re not as good as Young Living, but that’s a topic for another day.)
The people who use Young Living are real people who have real families (beyond all this figurative stuff LOL) and real friends. They have real experiences with oils and real testimonies about how the oils work for them.
Does it matter who you sign up with for Young Living?
YES!!
When I first got my Young Living Premium Starter Kit, I entered the enroller number from one of my (real-life) mom’s friends. While I loved supporting this friend by joining her Young Living family… I didn’t receive the support I was hoping for. This oil mom never reached out to me after I signed up with her. I don’t know if she even knew I had bought oils with her number.
The person above her in my Young Living family tree reached out and sent me texts each month of Young Living’s promos- trying to get me to buy them. When I asked about the best way to add people to our oil family, I received no response. I didn’t feel support at all. I felt like a customer rather than a friend and family member.
So I looked into what I needed to do to switch oil families.
Young Living doesn’t want people switching back and forth and abandoning their oil family, so they make the process long and complicated. I ended up having to go a whole YEAR without buying the oils I love, just so I could switch families and find the support, community, and education I craved.
So trust me- you don’t want to be joining some random Young Living family!
