Have you ever heard a Young Living business myth?

I have. In fact, I’ve even thought a few of these myths myself.

I knew shortly after I got my Premium Starter Kit in the mail that I wanted to start selling Young Living Essential Oils. The oils were benefiting my life too much for me not to start sharing it with others.

However, these myths about the Young Living business held me back for several months! I don’t want them to hold you back either so today, I wanted to expose some of the common myths about making money through Young Living.

I’m just now getting started building my Young Living business. So far the experience has been totally awesome! I’m connecting with new people and I get to talk about products that are blessing my life! Whoo-hoo!

I had a ton of questions when I first started thinking about starting to sell oils. You probably have questions too if you’re here. So let’s go ahead and get started!

Have you ever heard a Young Living business myth? I have! Today we're debunking 5 common myths about building a Young Living business.

Young Living Business Myth #1: You Can’t Make Money Selling Young Living.

#False.

Young Living is totally open about how much money you can possibly make by selling their products. Check out their 2018 Income Disclosure Statement to see the possibilities!

Okay, and before you start thinking “Yeah yeah, but of course Young Living would say you can make money through them. That doesn’t mean you actually can.

I thought that too. What convinced me was hearing all the testimonials from people who have made this their full-time jobs. There are so many people in my Young Living Facebook groups who are making money with this and share about their successes and encourage new oily people in their journey.

Young Living Business Myth #2: Young Living is a “Get Rich Quick” Scheme

Sadly, no.

This business is a marathon, not a sprint. If you go into it with the mindset of “I’ll make $1000 during my first month!” you’ll be disappointed when that doesn’t happen.

The Young Living Income Disclosure lists the average amount of time it takes people to achieve the next income rank. In 2018, it took an average of 13 months for people to hit the first rank.

To be successful in a Young Living business, you have to “Out-Consist,” as my friend Lacee puts it. You got to show up every day and talk about your oils. You got to show people how you’re using the oils and Young Living products every single day.

People won’t buy something they think they have no use for. You got to show them how great the products are!

Also, keep in mind what’s called “The 90 Day Rule.” You’ll see fruit today from the work you put in 90 days ago. So if you started talking about oils last week and no one has DMed you about it yet, think back to what you were doing to talk about oils three months ago. If you hadn’t started sharing, don’t be surprised if nothing has taken root yet. Just be faithful today, pray over your business, and show up consistently.

Young Living Business Myth #3: Making Money with Young Living Is Overwhelming

It doesn’t have to be!

I suppose it could be if you’re trying to figure it out on your own.

But I’m here for you every step of the way :)

When you sign up with me, I’ll get you plugged into our team’s Facebook groups so you can start learning how to share your oils. If you’re interested in the business side of Young Living, I’ll add you to the business-focused Facebook groups. We’ll help you learn how to best share the oils and cheer you on every step of the way!

I love these business-focused Facebook groups. They give checklists of tasks to complete and scripts for classes and images to share on social media! It’s so great!

If you don’t have a Facebook, I can recommend books for you and you and I can chat via email or some other way. You don’t have to do this alone. It does not have to be overwhelming at all!

Young Living Business Myth #4: You Have to be an Oils Expert to Make Money

Nope! Simply not true.

When you get your Premium Starter Kit, you have the 12 oils that your friends and family will get when they get their kit. You just start using your oils and sharing what you love about the oils that you have. Talk about what you’re learning about them and people will start to get interested.

If you don’t have your oils in the mail yet, talk about how you’re so excited to finally be getting essential oils and encourage your friends and family to look into Young Living too! Gush about why you’re looking forward to getting your oils in the mail and rave about which oils you’re most excited about trying.

One girl in one of our business groups made $50 by helping someone else sign up before her own oils even came in the mail! How amazing and inspiring is that!?

It’s totally possible to share oils even if you don’t know much about them.

Young Living Business Myth #5: You Have to Spend Lots of Money to have a Young Living Business

The great thing about selling Young Living products is that you don’t personally sell anything. You don’t have to keep an inventory of products in your living room to sell to people. People buy Young Living products online and get it shipped directly to them.

Once someone has bought their starter kit and imputed your member ID number, you make a commission off of every future product they purchase.

One caveat here: To get paid you do have to make a $100 minimum purchase each month. You do this by enrolling in Essential Rewards- the customizable wellness subscription box.

You pick which products you want to get each month. Soaps. Shampoo. Deodorant. Dish soap. Pasta. Makeup. Oils. The options are practically endless!

So instead of spending $100 a month at Target on those things, you switch and purchase products you need at Young Living. And then you get paid for it!

Oh, and did I mention that you’ll also get a free gift each month for spending $100? And if you spend more than that, there are more free gifts you could possibly qualify for? And you get points back to spend on future purchases?

Yup. Essential Rewards is awesome! I’d be on it even if it wasn’t the only requirement for this job.

How are you doing in this business, Kara? How much are you making?

I hear you asking me.

As of today (4/28/2020) I have made a grand total of $0.

Zero dollars. That’s what I’m currently at. 🤷‍♀️

And it’s low-key embarrassing to admit that and then say “Hey, come join my team!”

But I want to practice what I preach. If I can put myself out there on the internet and say “I can help you sell oils even as I’m beginning to sell oils” then you can do the same thing to the people you know. Like I said earlier, you don’t have to be an expert to do this. You can start your business from day one- the second you purchase your starter kit.

I also have to disclose that I only started talking about oils on my Instagram a month ago, at the beginning of March. I’ve only held one class (via Zoom) so far. I have several friends and family members who are interested in getting oils, but they haven’t decided to go for it yet.

And this is okay.

I’m keeping that “90 Day Rule” in mind and doing the things that the people in my Facebook groups tell me to do. They have walked before me and I want to follow in their footsteps.

Every “Royal Crown Diamond” (the highest income rank) in Young Living started out as a lowly distributor once upon a time. Every successful oils person has to start at zero dollars.

And I want to document my journey for you. It seems like so many people only share about the business side of Young Living once they’ve already built their own businesses. I don’t want to be like that. I want to talk about it from the beginning :)

So I’ll update this post in a few months and say when I reach certain ranks and disclose when I do start making money. :)

Until then, I’d be completely humbled and honored if you decided to become my oils BFF and business buddy. :) We can literally walk alongside each other every step of the way.

5/23/2020 Update:

I hit Star!!!

This is the first rank of the Young Living business and I’m so excited!!

To hit Star you need at least 500 OGV (organization group volume).

How I got here:

  • My high school piano teacher asked me to order her some oils through my account. (100PV- points value, which go towards the 500 OGV I needed)
  • My mom and grandmother signed up (100PV each, for a total of 200PV)
  • I placed a larger than normal ER order this month, bringing my OGV to the needed total of 500.
