During the summer, things can get crazy with our own schedules, much less trying to incorporate our friend’s schedules with ours.
But just because it can be harder to get together with our friends during the summer, doesn’t mean we should just sit on the couch watching Netflix during our spare time until they can hang out.
Here are 17 adventures you can go on by yourself :)
- See a movie at the theater
- Eat out at a nice restaurant
- Go to the library and read
- Watch the sunset
- Go shopping
- No money? No problem. Go window shopping. Try on all the clothes.
- Bake cookies
- Perfect your homemade salsa recipe
- Read those books you’ve been wanting to but haven’t had time for
- Go see a play at a local theater
- Go to a park
- Paint a canvas
- Read a book by the pool
- Write a short story
- Jam to some tunes
- Dance in the rain
- Volunteer at your church
The joy of being comfortable with yourself
I think it’s important to be comfortable spending time with yourself.
Sure, the first time I went to the movie theater by myself I felt a little awkward at first… but then I loved it! It was great being able to sit wherever I wanted to sit and to treat myself to an icee drink (I never buy those).
I like eating by myself too. I haven’t gone to a sit-down restaurant by myself yet, but I’ve eaten alone at a Popeyes, and have bought a pretzel at the mall and eaten that by myself. Eating alone gives me time to think and pray.
Being alone is different than being lonely.
Loneliness is something many of us struggle with. It’s the #1 problem of singleness. But just because you’re alone doesn’t mean you have to be lonely.
In this post, I wrote about 5 ways we can combat loneliness. Well, along those same lines, I think learning to enjoy your own company can certainly help stop feelings of loneliness.
How to plan your solo-adventure:
Right now, I want you to think of one way you can have an adventure with yourself this week.
Got an idea in your head?
Great!
Now, take out your phone and open your calendar. Pick a time where you can go on that solo-adventure. Punch it in. Set a reminder if you’re like me and don’t ever open the calendar app.
Next, comment below and let me know what you’re planning on doing. Is it something on the list I provided above? Something else? I’d love to hear it!
Lastly, actually go on the solo-adventure. Don’t stand yourself up. Do it. And have fun :)

Totally agree with the volunteering idea. I help out with the youth at my church and it keeps me pretty busy! I love the message that being single doesn’t mean you have to miss out on enjoying life and doing things!
