Needing some long-distance date ideas? Look no farther! Today I’m sharing five ideas with you to kick-start your own date idea brainstorming session.

This strange time of social distancing has given many of us a taste of what it must be like for people who are in long-distance relationships.

Thankfully, my boyfriend and I have still been able to see each other throughout quarantine. However, a few weeks ago he was exposed to someone who had the virus so he found himself quarantining at home just in case he had it.

I was not about to spend two weeks without interacting with him at all, so I instantly started brainstorming long-distance date ideas.

My best friend and her fiancé found themself separated earlier this year for about two months due to everything. I texted her and asked for long-distance date ideas.

“I go to you for date ideas! 😂” she replied.

Nevertheless, I proceeded to brainstorm some date ideas that Caleb and I could do via FaceTime or Zoom.

Today, I’m sharing my brainstormed list with you. This is not the ultimate list of long-distance date ideas. If you’re like how I was, this article will probably be one of many that you read to find virtual date ideas.

I hope these ideas act as a launchpad to get you thinking creatively about what you and your boyfriend can do together while separated.

Think about what you like doing in person and then come up with ways to make those dates work virtually.

These are the long-distance date ideas I came up with:

1. Play a game via FaceTime or Zoom.

Caleb and I like playing games together, so I thought it would be fun to come up with a virtual alternative.

A few games I thought would work well are Uno, Checkers, Pictionary, and Hangman.

For Uno, we’d each need to have a deck. Whenever we’d play a card, we’d just hold it up to the camera for the other person to see and then play their card.

Checkers would be trickier. We’d have to set up our boards and then watch carefully as the other person moved their pieces, mimicking the actions on our own board.

Pictionary might be a simpler option. One person would think of something to draw and then hold it up to the camera and the other person would guess what it was.

Hangman is a game that my best friend and her fiancé did a lot via Zoom. They used the “Draw” feature when you go to share your screen to play this game.

2. Virtual Traveling

Lots of museums and zoos are offering virtual tours right now. Caleb and I love going to zoos so I thought this could be a fun date. We’d probably have to use Zoom and share our screen with the other person so we could tour the zoo together.

Another way we could do virtual traveling is by using Google Earth and traveling to someplace in the world. Caleb and I don’t travel any farther than we can go in one day right now, so virtually exploring a new spot in the world could be so much fun!

3. Phone Call While Walking

When the weather is nice, I love going on walks with Caleb :)

Since we can’t go on a walk in person, why not both walk at the same time while talking on the phone?

It’s getting hotter in Texas right now, so this is the idea I think we’d be least likely to do right now.

However, if you live somewhere where it isn’t super hot, I totally recommend this idea :)

4. Online Escape Rooms

Similarly to the museums and zoos, you can Google “online escape room” and find one that you and your boyfriend can do from afar.

Caleb and I love doing escape rooms. We’ve done three with our families and friends and one just the two of us.

Back when everything was shut down but Caleb and I could still see each other, we tried one of those “escape rooms in a box” that you see at Target or on Amazon. It was really fun and actually worked really well!

5. Watch a TV Show or a Movie Together

This is something I’ve done a lot with my long-distance friends.

In case you’ve never done this, here’s the gist of it: You both decide on a movie or show that you want to watch together. Then you call each other and count down so you hit “play” at the same time. Then either you stay on the phone and make commentary about the movie or you can text each other while the movie plays.

I prefer the texting option. It’s so fun to try to “beat” the other person in texting funny lines that the characters say.

I hope these long-distance date ideas give you a place to start brainstorming for yourself.

Think about what you and your boyfriend like doing in person, and then try to think of a way you could do that virtually.

If you both like reading, you could read the same book and then discuss it. If you both like videogames, I’m sure there’re ways to play those together online. (I clearly don’t play videogames much LOL!)

Do you have other long-distance date ideas? Please share them in the comments so others and I can know! :)

Love these ideas! Thank you for sharing! I agree that FaceTime movie dates can be a lot of fun. :) My LDR boyfriend and I have also enjoyed taking personality quizzes online (both the serious and silly ones), and taking turns reading a book aloud with each other! Best wishes to all of you in long distance and quarantine relationships!!
