“Wove, twoo wove!”

One of my favorite scenes of The Princess Bride is when Princess Buttercup and Humperdinck have their very-rushed wedding. The Princess Bride doesn’t relate to what we’re talking about today, but I couldn’t begin a post about love without referencing this quote ;)

Anywho….

This month in our Abide study we’re going to be focusing on how we can abide in Jesus’s love and how we can love others as well. I thought it would be fitting to talk about love during the month that has a holiday celebrating love.

In John 15:9 Jesus said, “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Abide in my love.”

Abide in Jesus’ love.

Before we begin this chapter of our series, we need to discover what love is, and what it isn’t.

Love can be that mushy feeling you get when you hold a puppy or watch a chick flick. But true love isn’t just a feeling. There’s so much more to it than that.

John 15:13 tells us “Greater love has no man than this: that he lay down his life for his friends.”

Love is an action. Love is sacrifice.

Love is...

1 Corinthians 13 tells us a lot about love. We learn what love is and what love isn’t. And in 1 John 4:8 we learn that God is love.

God=Love

In math, we learn that if A=4 and B=4, then A=B.
Following this principle, if God=love, and love=patience, kindness, and the rest of the list above, than we can logically calculate that God is patient, kind, forgiving, and so on.

So not only is 1 Cor. 13 giving us characteristics of love, it is also giving us characteristics of God, because God is love.

When we love others, we are showing them God’s love in us.

And that’s what we’re going to be talking about during the month of February: abiding in Jesus’ love so we can in turn love others.

Suggested Memory Verse: “Greater love has no man than this: that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
